Dave Moss grew up reading National Geographic and dreaming of becoming a travel photographer, archaeologist or war photographer. When the time came to pick a career, though, he ended up becoming a fiber optic engineer. For twelve years, he worked as an engineer while doing hobby photography on the side. Then his sister asked her to shoot her wedding. Then a friend asked, too—and paid him. More wedding gigs led him to Abigail, his now-wife and business partner in Abby + Dave, which offers natural, connected wedding photography.
The early years of their business were challenging. “Most people couldn’t tell the difference between a good photo and a great photo, but if we didn’t get our business in order, we wouldn’t survive.” With that, they read business books, took accounting classes, and learned to see the business itself as a creative project. They’re now 12 years into Abby + Dave, and every year after the first has made six figures. Dave has used this experience to teach, coach, and share his expertise through Business As An Adventure.
